GRAND OPENING

Robert Jeandor and his Solo Banda Show will be the musical pull for the entire island of Aruba to come to the Palm Beach Plaza Mall to be present at the fabulous opening of Taste of Belgium Restaurant on Friday, 11th October. This place in the Palm Beach Plaza Mall was already voted `the most beautiful restaurant on the island’ by quite a number of connoisseurs; it has been open for a month now and it is doing great. Now it is time to celebrate its official opening, and it is done in style: on the holiest of holy Carnival days, on the eleventh of the eleventh, two thousand and eleven. What more can you ask for?

On this date the Carnival groups of Aruba will be officially registering their participation with SAC in the 2012 event. Always a fun happening, this time it will be spectacular, as it coincides with the opening of Taste of Belgium. The tastefully decorated, black-and-white tiled restaurant is gearing up for the event: from six thirty to eight o’clock a private reception is held for friends, acquaintances, long-time regulars, business acquaintances and dignitaries; after that the heat is on and the carnival hits will sound loud and clear.

The focus of Taste of Belgium lies on taste, good taste. This holds true for the exclusive wines by the glass, the variety of Belgian beers, the exquisite coffees and cocktails, but certainly also for the menu, which combines Belgian/French classics with international favorites. The relaxed, intimate and yet trendy atmosphere in the restaurant has already turned many guests into repeaters. The comments are great, so things are off to a wonderful start.

Aruba is invited to come and celebrate on Friday, 11th at Palm Beach Plaza. Robert Jeandor and his Solo Banda Show and Taste of Belgium together will provide a night toremember. The salsa and meringue band will play from 8 to 11 pm; there will be an outside Balashi Bar with rum specials.

ROCKENBACH IN CONCERT

Belgian sensation Rockenbach, the group that is mixing up classical music with contemporary rock in a mouth-dropping way, will perform live in concert and free of charge at Taste of Belgium in the Palm Beach Plaza mall.

Two tenors, a soprano and a chansonnier will sing their hearts out in a replay of their superb charity concert of last Friday evening in Cas di Cultura. Belgium is showing what it’s got and it is truly awesome. Exquisite Taste of Belgium, called Arubas most beautiful restaurant by some, is of course the ultimate homecoming for the singers, who won’t be homesick for a moment when at the restaurant in Palm Beach Plaza.

Rockenbach, describes its music as The Passion of Classic with the Power of Rock. For instance, it will shake Michael Jackson up with a pinch of Beethoven and ACDC is going to get a dose of Mozart. Those who were on Aruba during Cas di Glas 2010 will surely remember the band. Now they are back on the island with a vengeance, with a wonderful, light repertoire and two added singers: Manuela van Geenhoven, soprano, and chansonnier Hein de Meester.

The band Rockenbach is currently making waves in Belgium, where they have survived a grueling number of auditions to emerge as one of the top groups that will be competing in The Voice van Vlaanderen program, an Idols-inspired television program. Five thousand auditions have been held during the past year: Kris Struyven and Harry Hendrickx, both tenors, have kept on singing the stars from the sky and now they are reaching for the moon.

Recently Rockenbach covered John Lennon’s song Happy Xmas in their own unique way. This song is available on CD and its proceeds will go towards the Clown Doctors. The price is Afl. 10 and proceeds will go to the Clown Doctors of Aruba, the foundation that brings a smile where one is needed most. Happy Xmas, by the way, won first prize in a contest on a Belgian radio station.

On Aruba on the invitation of Divis Alex Nieuwmeijer and president of the Clown Doctors of Aruba Peter Ballière, composer, keyboard player and band manager Hugo Ulens has brought his four excellent singers to this sunny island for a few exclusive performances. During the evening at Taste of Belgium a wide variety of light classical music will be played, interspersed with popular songs in Dutch.

Go to Taste of Belgium this evening, Monday, January 9 at 8pm, and get a good taste of what Belgium has to offer.
